Thoughts on Weather and A Poem by Annie Johnson Flint

Romans 14:8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Years ago a dear, elderly lady in our church family was in bed one night when some very severe storms were going trough our area.  Her daughter called her and told her she needed to “take shelter”.  Now “Grandma Irene”, as we lovingly and respectfully called her, lived in a single wide mobile home.  Her neighbors on both sides lived in mobile homes, and it was a bit of a walk across the road to a stick built house for an older lady who had trouble walking.  She said to her daughter that she was going to stay put, adding a statement that went down in our family history – “The Lord knows right where I am.”

Some of us do not have a good option for “taking shelter” when these events happen, but as children of our heavenly Father we can rest in the assurance that He knows right where we are, and as another friend once said, “…nothing is taking Him by surprise.”

I may have posted this poem here before. I can’t remember at the moment. But, with the sever weather that has been and is sweeping the central U.S. it came to mind and seemed like a good reminder.

The Double Clasp

The Saviour's hand - how close its hold,
That none can loosen, none can break.
No powers of heaven or earth or hell
That loving clasp can ever shake.

And over Jesus' wounded hand
The Father's hand of strength is laid,
Omnipotent to save and keep;
Thus is our surety surer made.

So, one beneath and one above,
Father and Son their hands unite.
How safe, how safe the ransomed are
Within that clasp of tender might!

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one.

Hiding In Thee Medley – A good reminder.  Poor photography, but a lovely medley of comfort and assurance.

  1. Hi, Mary,
That was a very good story...what a wonderful attitude to have, simple trust. Yes, the Lord knows right where we are. What a comfort it is to be reminded of that. I like that verse in Romans. It's very fitting.
We live in a doublewide, so I know where she's coming from. :-) We don't normally have tornadoes in this part of the country, but we have had a few close calls in the (almost) ten years we've lived here.
I really enjoy the Annie Johnson Flint poems you publish. They are very good.
Hope you enjoy your weekend. Take care. :-)

    1. Thanks for stopping by and for commenting. :-)

We live in a single wide mobile home ourselves. Ours has some additions, so it's really quite roomy, but when there are storms in the night our bedroom feels mighty narrow with it storming outside on both sides. When there is a chance of tornadoes we often go to my parents' or brother's house. They have doublewides, but built more sturdily than ours. :-) I wrote this for myself as much or more than for others because I tend to be easily frightened by severe storms here in tornado country, but I desire to trust in the Lord.

Annie Johnson Flint is my favorite poet. I'm glad you like her too. :-)
I hope you have a blessed weekend too.
