Evening Song - Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us

Psalm 23:1-6 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Regrowing Vegetables from Kitchen Scraps

Here is video showing how you can grow new food from vegetable trimmings. If you don't have a garden to plant the things in later after they root and sprout, you can plant most of them in pots. The pots would need to be large. For potatoes you would need something quite large since they are going to grow under the surface and will need plenty of room.

I do not know this lady, but she lives in the same part of the US as we do. Her aprons are a fun addition. :-)

Carpenter's Son - A Poem by Annie Johnson Flint

The little shop at Nazareth,
The peaceful life for which it stood,
The clear, strong, ringing hammer-strokes,
The droning saw, the riven wood,
The murmur of the smoothing plane,
The scent of shavings freshly curled –

Evening Song - Just As I Am

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Hymn Medley by Natalie Raynes - Because He Lives, etc.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Just for Fun - To Tickle Your Funny Bone

1. I used to work in a fire hydrant factory. You couldn't park anywhere near the place.

2. I wrote a song, but I can't read music. Every time I hear a new song on the radio, I think "Hey, maybe I wrote that."

3. I turned my air conditioner the other way around, and it got cold out. The weatherman said, "I don't understand it. It was supposed to be 80 degrees out today." I said "Oops . . ."

4. I spilled Spot remover on my dog. Now he's gone.

5. I bought some powdered water, but I didn't know what to add.

6. I have an answering machine in my car. It says, "I'm home now, but leave a message and I'll call when I'm out."

7. I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time." So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

9. I have a hobby. I have the world's largest collection of sea shells. I keep it scattered on beaches all over the world. Maybe you've seen some of it.

10. I went to a general store, but they wouldn't let me buy anything specific.

Worth Repeating: From Mom's Collection - What If It Were Today?

This was first posted on the blog in November 2018, but I reread this last week and it seemed appropriate to repeat it now.

1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

It has been quite some while since I posted anything from my mom's collection of old bits and pieces. Recently, in sorting through a box that contained, among other things, some resource materials for the web page and blog, I ran across some pages that had been taken from a ring binder. On these pages my mom had glued many poems and some short thoughts - mostly of spiritual encouragement. I didn't even remember that I had them! It was a lovely little surprise. :-)  Previously I was posting these items mostly here on the blog, but I have decided to put them at the web site now instead.

Having had some unexpected challenges this weekend, I am sharing just a short thought. It seemed useful, and I hope you find it so as well.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

What If It Were Today?

A traveler chanced upon a beautiful villa situated on the shores of a beautiful lake in Switzerland far from the beaten track of tourists. The traveler knocked at the garden gate and an aged gardener undid its heavy fastenings and bade him enter. The aged man seemed glad to see him and showed him around the wonderful garden.

"How long have you been here?" the traveler asked.

"Twenty-four years."

"And how often has your master been here meanwhile?"

Evening Song - I'd Rather Have Jesus

Psalm 19:7-10 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
