Sew Happy Friday – Tea Cup Coasters Tutorial Link

Coasters are a good item to have in areas where you entertain guests as well as for regular use by your own household.  They can save your furniture from water spots, or just keep that little mess off of surfaces that are not damageable.  This saves you a little bit of work, especially with coaster that can be tossed into the wash when they need to be cleaned.

These tea cup coasters are so pretty and they look like they are easy to make.  Here is the tutorial from Stephanie at The Enchanting Rose:

Tea Cup Coasters

These would be quite versatile.  You can make them “your own” by using fabric and trims that fit your décor and style.  Wouldn’t they be cute in red with white polka dots and a bit of white rick-rack?  I leave you to your imagination. :-)

Note: If you drink a lot of tea in your house, you may want to use a dark color that will camouflage tea stains.  Tea can be hard to get out of fabric.  In fact, tea can be used as a fabric dye.

  1. I saw this tutorial recently as well, cute! I made one from felt, and I am quite pleased with the result. Felt is so easy to work with, it doesn't fray and I did all the stitching by hand. Hand sewing is so relaxing, no machine to set up, the work can be picked up and put down at a moment's notice. I used solid color felt for the front and backed it with a polka dotted felt. added a bit of lace and for my stitching used embroidery floss. A very fun project. It's a gift for a friend, I'm trying rick rack on the next one :o)

    1. How neat that you've actually made one. :-) I dreamed of making some to add to the post, but it didn't get done. huh. Maybe sometime. Using felt is a good idea.

  3. Aren't those the cutest little coasters! And you're right, tea makes a great dye especially for an antiqued look. I've used it many times to tone down bright colors while dyeing yarn. I'm really enjoying your posts, Mary. :)
    Have a great evening!

    1. I hope I can get some made for our house. They suit my style. :-)
I had a friend once who dyed muslin with tea. I haven't tried it yet myself.
Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying it here. Thanks for commenting.
I did have a great evening, actually. Some of my family got together and we all cooked our supper over my brother's portable fire pit. :-) Have a good weekend!

  4. In my search for mug rugs (which I really like) I came across a variety of these and I think they are so clever. They are a great gift idea - can you imagine a "book" collection of coasters or place mates or someone's favourite animals or these cups. Love the idea :)

    1. That's a good idea too. Actually, these tea cups would make a really cute pennant banner. Hmmm...that gives me ideas. :-) I love the ideas and sharing that come from seeing various projects. Just don't have what it takes to make them all. LOL

My weekend has been good so far. If we can make it to fellowship tomorrow (after a couple weeks of health and other issues), I will be very thankful!
