Sew Happy Friday – Prewashing Trims
Should you prewash trims? This is something that I think varies depending on the trim and what you plan to do with it.
Last year sometime I started working on a jumper (pinafore). It is a light pink with cherries and strawberries on it and I wanted to add some red bias tape trim as a contrast. When I got the bias tape out I looked at the vivid color, and thinking about how reds sometimes run pretty badly, I decided maybe I should prewash it. The packaging had a “guarantee” on it to the effect that this bias tape was “colorfast” and if it ran and ruined a project the manufacturer would pay for the materials. Well, I’m a skeptic on some things and that was one of them. I decided to prewash that bias tape anyway.
Good thing I did!
Yeah. That doesn’t look colorfast to me either.
Here’s my bowl of pretty rosy water.
My jumper would have been ruined for sure. I wonder if their guarantee is as lousy as their “colorfast” dye? Good thing I didn’t have to find out!

Randomness On An Escaped Day
So, I’m late with this post today. Well, it’s a long story, but also short. The day got away from me. I didn’t feel well part of it, and I diddled part of it, and I did other things part of it, and then I looked out the window this afternoon and saw my brother and brother-in-law arriving home from work and thought, “Wow, they’re early,” and wondered if one of them wasn’t feeling well. Then I looked at the clock. Oops! Where did this day go?? :-( Time to get dinner!
Here are just some random things then.
Mail Call
One day last week our cat got 2/3 of the mail! Ok, there were only three pieces of mail that day, but two of them were “for” her. One was a reminder to come get her rabies shot (something we do faithfully since we live in a rural environment and she’s an indoor-outdoor cat). The other was a sample of cat food. (I would like a sample of chocolate in the mail, personally.) She liked the free cat food really well, but she will hate going to get the shot. :-) The shot is actually the least of her worries. She hates riding in the car.

Are You A Friend of God?
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Abraham was "the Friend of God". We are Abraham's children through faith in Christ.
Galatians 3:6-14 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Abraham lived by faith, not the Law (Rom. 4:12). He didn't even have the Law in his day, though he did know right from wrong since the law is written in every heart (Rom. 2:14-15). But, a friend likes to please his friend. Abraham obviously desired to please God, and he believed God. God knew that Abraham desired to please Him and He honored that.

Sew Happy Friday – Disappearing Hour Glass
I have to admit, Jenny Doan at the Missouri Star Quilt Company still fools me from time to time. I’ll see a video with a complicated quilt behind her and I’ll think there is no way she can make that easy, and then I watch it and she does. Don’t let the quilt behind her in this one fool you. She did figure out how to make it without cutting all those itty bitty pieces! :-)
