Evening Song - That Very Moment

Psalm 6:4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.

John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The shaky cam is pretty bad on this video, but you can enjoy the singing without watching. :-)

He Is My Light - A Poem by Martha Snell Nicholson

He Is My Light

He is the light in my dark sky,
My Bright and Morning Star;
The softly gleaming lamps of home
Which beckon from afar.

He is the lantern at me feet
To guide me on my way;
The moving pillar of bright fire
Which turns my night to day.

He is the beacon on the shore
Which warns me from the shoal;
The living, glowing blaze which warms
The chilled hearth of my soul.

Why should my heart know any fear
Of earthly, harkened things?
He is my Sun of Righteousness,
With tender, healing wings!

Martha Snell Nicholson

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings...

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Evening Song - When He Comes In Glory By and By

Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

1 John 3:2-3 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Word of the Day - Alive

Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Psalm 22:28-29 For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations. All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

1 Samuel 2:6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

Evening Song - Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

Matthew 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Song and Scripture - What Manner of Man Is this?

Matthew 8:26-27 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Luke 23:33-34 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Matthew 28:5-6 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Romans 4:23-25 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

The Thousand Word Project - A Heart that Bled

Father, forgive them, thus He did pray
Even as His lifeblood flowed fast away
Praying for sinners while in such woe
No one but Jesus ever loved so.

Avis Christiansen

John 19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side,
and forthwith came there out blood and water.

A New Page of Short Poems

Poppies. Central Texas.

I added a new collection of short poems at The Home Maker's Corner.

The Place of Peace

At the heart of the cyclone, tearing the sky
And flinging clouds and the towers by
Is the place of central calm;
So here in the roar of mortal things
I have a place where my spirit sings,
In the hollow of God's hand.

- Edwin Markham -

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Reader's Comments - Joy and Rejoicing In the Face of Adversity

A cousin on my mom's side of the family who sometimes reads my things sent me this message recently:

Hi Mary, I thought I would send you what I was thinking about...the other day. I was remembering the verses at the end of chapter 3 in the book of Habakkuk. I realized if it was in the vernacular, I would be saying "Even though we have come through two wearying years of Covid and the price of gas has almost tripled and inflation has affected every purchase I make, and though the media pours out negativity and misinformation and we hear of wars and rumors of wars and although the moral fabric of our nation seems to be in shreds, YET WILL I REJOICE IN THE LORD. I WILL JOY IN THE GOD OF MY SALVATION!"

The passage she is referring to is:

Habakkuk 3:17-18 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

In the trying times we're living in, this is something so important to remember, and so hard to actually do...

Evening Song - Springs of Living Water

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

John 4:10-14 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Apple Crisp - Gramma Hoover's Recipes

Here is another recipe from my Gramma Hoover, but this one was a loose card inside her write-in cook book. You can see how simply some recipes were written out by her.

Hope Knight was a sweet lady that Gramma worked with at the Rural Bible Mission in western Michigan. RBM had a similar format to Child Evangelism, but the ministry was much smaller. Their missionaries went out and did release time classes for children from public schools and chapel services for children in Christian schools during the school year. During the summer vacation (holiday), they did Vacation Bible Schools for various churches who invited them in. Gramma and Hope Knight both worked at the headquarters where materials were written, printed, and sent out as well as the missionaries' newsletters. I believe Hope was an artist who helped create visual materials. Gramma worked in the printing press room and mail room.

Editorial Notes are in brackets.

Apple Crisp

Slice 6 peeled apples into baking pan. [EN: you'll have to judge the size needed. It looks like maybe 8x8 or 9x9 inches, or a 2 qt. casserole dish, possibly. I would use sweet apples since there's not sugar added to them.]

In bowl work together:

1/2 C. flour
1/2 C. oatmeal
1/2 stick margarine [EN: or butter]
1/3 C. sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg [EN: ground]

[EN: Spread the crumb mixture evenly on the top of the apples.]

Bake at 450F for 35 minutes.

Wonderful Story - A Poem by Martha Snell Nicholson

Wonderful Story

Wonderful story of infinite grace!
Story of One crucified in my place,
Hanging forsaken between earth and sky,
Shamed and tormented and left there to die,
His kingly head bowed with the weight of my sin.
(Foul was I, Lord, without and within.)
Angels still carol the story through space,
Wonderful story of infinite grace!

Wonderful story of infinite love,
Wanting me there in heaven above;
Seeing me, blood-washed, as spotless as He,
Building a home for a sinner like me;
Oh, how it eases the pain I must bear,
Only to dream of that home waiting there,
Its windows aglow with the light from His face!
Wonderful story of love and of grace!

Martha Snell Nicholson

Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 3:14-19 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Evening Song - Count Your Blessings

Psalm 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
