October - A Poem by Annie Fellows Johnston

Here is a joyful yet pensive poem about October and autumn that I quite enjoyed.  I posted it over at the Home Maker's Corner.  (Annie Fellows Johnston is not to be confused with Annie Johnson Flint, whose poems I often post.)


Across the stubble fields the lazy breezes pass,
From Autumn orchards sloping southward in the sun,
Where dropping from the low-hung branches, one by one,
The apples hide in tangles of the wind-blown grass.
A warm, sweet scent of mellow fruit fills all the air...
