Monthly Challenge - June

Life has been a little, well...hectic lately.  I have a project that I'm working on that is taking up my extra strength and some of that which I should be using to do the "normal" stuff.  Hence, I'm falling behind till we can get this thing to a certain point.  (More later on that.  I do hope to let you in on it at some point.)  But, because of that, I have decided to use one of my easy challenges for us this month.  Since school is or will be out soon for people in some parts of the world, I suspect that some of my readers will be extra busy this month anyway.  Easy is sometimes better!

Are you ready? :-)

---------------------------------

Watch a sunrise or sunset,

And/Or

Go outside and look at the stars at night.

---------------------------------

Someone might think, "That's all?"  Well, here are some thoughts to go with it.

So many people are glued to technology these days, it is good to make a point of enjoying some of God's creation.  It is good to look at the heavens because they tell of God's glory.

Psalms 19:1-6  The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,  Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Please do look at the real thing if it is at all possible, not a picture or video on the computer.  City folks may have to plan to go to a place where they can actually do this.  It is much better in person - provided you aren't being eaten alive by mosquitoes. ;-)  For those in the Southern Hemisphere it may involve checking the weather in order to see when the sky will be clear.

That's it.  Can you manage it? :-)  I trust it will be a blessing to you as you take the time to stop and really look at the beauty of God's artwork which He offers you free of charge!

  1. I love looking at the stars at night. As we live in a rural area with no light at all at night, the stars are truly spectacular. I agree that looking at either the sun or the stars really gives me peace and rest. It slows you down for a while and gives your mind a rest from constant thoughts of what you should be rushing off to do next. You are right, it really is that simple. Great post!

    1. We live in the country too and, although we have some yard lights, we enjoy night skies. Also, we have nice view toward the sunset. The sunrise is more difficult due trees.
I'm glad you like this post. Thanks for commenting. :-)

  2. OH such a lovley reminder. Thank you! I live in NE Minnesota where sunsets gorgous on the lakes hee. I do not go out to look often enough as that is a busier time of day. But I will tomorrow ! Also I love looking at stars. We owned a resort in Ely Mn for 55 years and I loved to go out after work around eleven at night and sit in the pontoon boat and look at stars and northern lights. God is so clearly with us in thst moment, well all moments, but the Power of the Presence is fellt strongly under the stars . Thank you and God bless you!! Merri

    1. That sounds lovely. You can accomplish this challenge without even doing anything "extra". :-) We have a window with a comfortable chair beside it where I can see the sunset - at least enough of it to know if I should go outside and get a better view. :-) I kind of think our best sunsets are in the winter here.

  4. The sunsets here lately have been particularly colourful and beautiful - I've been enjoying them every evening. I also feel very blessed to have half our house facing the western horizon and so many big windows through which to enjoy this beautiful creation God has placed us in, including those gorgeous behind-the-mountains sunsets!! :)

    1. You are in a really beautiful spot there! I was really struck by it when we visited. The sunsets behind those mountains must be amazing. :-) I sometimes think we have our best sunset in winter here.

  5. I was driving to work the other day, it was still too early for the sun, therefore I saw the moon in its full glory hanging just over the mountains - it was a full moon and look magnificent. Whilst I don't like getting up early in the mornings, these scenes make it all worth while :))

    1. It sounds beautiful! I agree about not getting up that early, though. :-) It does have it's perks when it's necessary, however.

Our grandfather on my dad's side taught us to look at the night sky as a source of wonder for God's creation. He liked to try to point out the constellations to us.
